HAMPTON, Va. (January 22,
2010) – Round three of the 2010 AMA Arenacross Series kicked-off from the
legendary Hampton Coliseum on Friday night as the series made its return to
Hampton, Va. for the first time since 2008. After sweeping last weekend’s
action from Baltimore, Md., Babbitt’s Monster Energy/Ti Lube
Kawasaki’s Tyler Bowers, of Danville, Ky., set himself up for yet another
dominating weekend, winning his fourth race in a row and extending his points
lead. American Honda’s Taylor Futrell, of
Clinton, N.C., captured his second career AMA Arenacross Lites class victory
during his rookie season. Tuf Honda’s
Brock Sellards, of Sherodsville,
Ohio, grabbed the holeshot for the premier AMA
Arenacross class 25-lap main event. The veteran rider held on to the top spot
for the first three laps until Bowers made his winning pass for the lead on lap
four, never looking back once out front. The win extended Bowers’ points
lead from 16 points to 21 over teammate Chad Johnson, of Rhinelander, Wis. Sellards held on to second for his first podium of 2010
while Johnson secured the third and final spot on the podium. After capturing
his maiden professional victory at the opening round from Grand Rapids, Mich., Futrell dominated en route to win number two on Friday
night, nabbing the AMA Arenacross Lites Eastern Regional class holeshot and leading all 16 of the laps in the main event.
Eventual runner-up Chad Wages, of Frederick, Md., kept Futrell
honest throughout the race, but took the conservative approach aboard his
Petroleum Site Works Suzuki to claim his first career podium finish. Series points leader Tyler Bright, of Lexington, N.C., brought his
Foremost Insurance Yamaha home in third, slightly extending his points lead
over hometown rider Devon Pilkington, of Virginia Beach, Va., who finished
fourth. The Hampton
Arenacross continues tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. ET. Fans in attendance
Saturday can take part in the Track Party from 5-6 p.m. for the chance to meet
the riders and get autographs. Simply recycle any MONSTER ENERGY can at
